Located within the backyard of an existing residential property in Toronto, this garden suite was envisioned as an independent living space designed to support multi generational living while maintaining strong family connections. Developed for the homeowner's son, the project explores how compact residential architecture can create privacy and autonomy without losing the everyday interactions that make shared living meaningful.

The design approach focused on preserving visual and physical connections between the main house and the new suite while ensuring each space maintains its own sense of identity. Full height glazing and large sliding glass openings strengthen the relationship between interior spaces and the shared backyard, allowing outdoor space to become an extension of daily living.

Architecturally, the project embraces simple forms and a restrained material palette. Interior spaces prioritize openness, natural light, and flexibility. The project demonstrates how thoughtful small scale housing can support changing family dynamics while contributing to gentle residential intensification within established neighbourhoods.
