Originally designed as a single storey bungalow, this project reimagines an existing home through a substantial renovation and vertical expansion that responds to evolving family needs, housing flexibility, and long term value creation. The intervention introduces a new second floor addition, extensive interior renovations, and two new basement rental suites while preserving the residential character of the surrounding neighbourhood.
The design strategy focuses on transforming the scale and experience of the existing home while maximizing the potential of the property. The addition creates expanded living spaces above while increased ceiling heights throughout the main floor introduce a stronger sense of openness, natural light, and spatial continuity.
Exterior interventions combine clean contemporary forms with a restrained material palette, balancing dark cladding elements with light finishes to create contrast and visual depth. Interior spaces are designed around warmth, simplicity, and everyday functionality. The introduction of two basement rental suites creates additional housing opportunities while supporting long term flexibility and income generation for the homeowner.
